      Zoey Zagst She/Her

From a young age, I've had an addiction to investigating the human experience. It started when my mom took me to see my first musical Cabaret, when I was eight years old growing up in Blowing Rock, NC. At eight I didn't understand the political activism, the social nuances, or the glaring central metaphor hidden between the notes and lyrics. I did, however, develop a robust connection to the storyline, the characters, and the music. The show's elimination of the fourth wall and brave, explicit, story embraced my soul and thrust me into a never-ending daydream. I began participating in community theatre as an escape from everyday life. I like to say theatre was my first love.

Soon after, I relocated to Venice, FL in 2019. I've taught myself to embody multiple identities, constantly reinventing myself in accordance with the character I was playing at the time. All the while filling my sketchbooks with visual observations. Each has taught me separate commodities about myself and the world around me. These stories, told through stage, art, dance, and music, had given me solstice- allowing me to have a subjective lens to observe the human experience from. Through my various experiences in all aspects of performance and visual art, I've unearthed an even deeper understanding of the human experience, and an intense appreciation for media of all art forms. I adapted a complex narrative to be deliverable, each component telling a story. Appreciating these nuances — the lighting, the set, the actors — has cultivated my mindset towards creating.  I currently attend the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and am pursuing a BFA in scenic design and cant wait to see what the future holds!
