Trophy for the Absurdist, 2026
Polymer clay, gouache, PVC vinyl
This piece exists within the liminal space between dreams and storytelling. The surreality of the practice of taxidermy reconstructed through a lawless attempt to make the familiar feel unsettlingly foreign. My life following OCD diagnosis has been a subconscious display of absurdism. The early-onset debilitation of my vitality through the condition introduced art as my most important (and most consistently prominent) means of survival. Embracing the struggle of the disorder and the unique perspective birthed by it is paramount to enjoying life despite it. Like Sisyphus endlessly pushing his boulder, one must find happiness and meaning in the effort itself. I used this perspective to influence a search for meaning between the contrasting motifs of traditional tattoo work within the piece and the depilated creature. Inspiring a meaningless endeavor filled with substance personally created, mirroring my perspective of life itself and why the creation of art is so personal to me. In essence, weird art is fun!
